Part of creating an inclusive space means hiring a staff that reflects our population. Whether it’s through similar interests, relatable life experiences, or a shared culture, we aim to build a community of diverse role models for our campers. This blend of people with different backgrounds transforms the camp experience and positively impacts children into adulthood. While we embrace an environment filled with differences, we know finding commonalities is important too. Zendelli, the head of Arts and Crafts at Hive, shares how finding a counselor she could connect to greatly improved her time as a camper—and impacts the kind of counselor she is today.
