Vanessa Riegler, Director
Vanessa grew up in the nutmeg state, raised in North Haven, Connecticut. After receiving a degree in Biology from UCONN and a degree in English from Yale, Vanessa set out on adventures near and far. Vanessa then moved to Cape Cod, her favorite childhood vacation spot, where she worked for the South Shore YMCA as an outdoor educator and frequently biked dunes and roads across the cape and islands.
On to nearly 10 years with Outward Bound in Boston, California, Philadelphia and South Africa, first as a field instructor and, later, as director of new center development—creating leadership opportunities for youth, educators and families in new places. All before finding her current home and role at Ohana.
Vanessa loves to create one-of-a-kind experiences at Ohana through Family Camp or Weddings. Vanessa is the first person you will see in the morning and the last you will see at night, making sure every detail is in order.
Vanessa is at her best outdoors with her husband Nolan, sons Stone and Zephyr, and daughter Coral. You may find her out on the lake in a kayak or canoe, hiking in the beautiful Vermont countryside or at the local farmer’s market. Vanessa and her family live at Ohana in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Jason Chartrand, Head Chef
Jason is a native Adirondacker, born and raised in the very north of upstate NY. An aficionado of classic PBS TV watching Jeff Smith and Julia Child a path down a culinary journey ensued.
Jason has worked for summer camps, outdoor recreation centers and in bistros throughout the northeast and mid-Atlantic states. Jason recently worked at the acclaimed restaurant and boutique hotel, The INN in northern Vermont with his food featured on the Travel Channel, in Zagat, The Boston Globe and The Montreal Gazette. After a very short stint working in healthcare Jason has returned to Vermont and now calls Ohana home.
Jason is most at-home working with the freshest, local and happy ingredients to create an artistic and palate pleasing experience. He loves inventive fusion cuisine and has a soft spot for Asian cuisine.
During his time off, you will find him traveling to new and exciting food destinations, cross country skiing in Vermont’s vast trails in the winter and golfing in the summer. Jason lives at Ohana in the Spring, Summer, and Fall and everywhere in between in the winter.

Gretchen Grote, Events Manager and Registrar
Gretchen is a small town Vermonter, growing up in South Royalton, VT. After studying Sport Management in college, Gretchen went on to pursue her Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership, while working as a graduate student in the Athletic Department at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). Her event management background comes from working a variety of events at SNHU, including political, athletic, and mainstream events. Once returning home to Vermont, Gretchen has worked in schools for the past five years as an athletic director and support staff member. She started in 2013 working at Ohana as the Head of the Waterfront and has moved on to become Registrar and Events Manager. She enjoys every aspect of camp, along with every detail for each wedding we host. Her favorite part of Ohana and the summer will always be the waterfront and the campers she meets along the way.
