Medications at Camp
Campers and minor staff taking medications at camp on a regular basis (including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements) will need a completed Medication Order Form. The form should be filled out and signed by the prescriber, then signed by a parent or legal guardian, and uploaded back into the Medication Order Form section of the camper’s forms (or emailed to Gretchen Cyros). Due to nurse licensure and scope of practice laws, we can only dispense your child’s medication when we have a signed order from the prescribing medical professional. The instructions on a prescription bottle do not take the place of a signed provider’s order. If your child arrives at camp without a signed order, we will not be able to dose them until we receive orders from the child’s provider.
Exceptions: Our camp physicians provide our nurses with standing orders for many as-needed medications. Our nurses can dispense things like Advil using our camp supply and the standing orders from our camp physicians. If your child occasionally needs a medication on the Standing Orders list, you do not need to have a Medication Order Form completed and we ask that you NOT send any medications to camp. However, if you anticipate your child will take medication from the standing orders on a daily basis (for example, your child takes Zyrtec every day for allergies), please DO complete the Medication Order Form and send a supply of the medication to camp. Our standing orders are not meant to be applied to daily dosing.
All medications should arrive at camp in the original packaging, labeled with your child’s name.
Our routine medication schedule is as follows: before/during breakfast (7:30-8:30am), lunch (12:30-1:30 pm) or dinner (6:00-7:00 pm), and prior to bedtime (8:30-9:00 pm). Except in unusual circumstances, medication administration is limited to these times because it does not interrupt activities. Sticking to these administration times is the best way to make sure your camper is getting their medication as it is ordered. Please consider our routine medication schedule when you and your child’s doctor are completing the health forms.
We serve nutritious meals that incorporate local farm fresh ingredients whenever possible. We ask that you refrain from sending vitamins and supplements unless they are prescribed by your child’s healthcare provider and are accompanied by a doctor’s order.
