Hello Aloha Friends!
I’m honored to have recently stepped into the role of Director of Development at the Aloha Foundation—and even more honored to be joining a community that has quietly shaped my life for generations.
My mother, Ann Wheeler Burgess, attended Aloha Camp for nine summers beginning in 1950. In 1958, she met my father Russ —then a Lanakila counselor—on the Lanakila baseball field. That meeting sparked a lifelong love story, and as their daughter, I grew up with an appreciation for campfires, song nights, and Vermont summers. Years later, my son Ben followed in their footsteps, attending Horizons and Lanakila for several unforgettable seasons. Last spring, I celebrated my wedding on the shores of Lake Morey at the Hulbert Outdoor Center—another joyful memory tied to this remarkable place.
Professionally, I bring 18 years of experience in fundraising and donor engagement, most recently from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business. Before that, I served as Director of Parent Giving and Relations at St. Paul’s School. Throughout my career, I’ve been energized by the opportunity to build relationships, inspire philanthropy, and support missions that have a lasting and positive impact. Joining Aloha allows me to bring those passions and skills to a place I care about deeply.
What draws me to this work—and to Aloha—is the power of community. Camp is where people become their best selves. It’s where friendships deepen, confidence grows, and young people discover the resilience and joy that will carry them through life. I believe that kind of transformation deserves our collective support.
Over the coming months, I look forward to getting to know many of you—our generous alumni, donors, families, and friends. Whether it’s over coffee, a call, or a walk in the woods, I’d love to hear your stories, learn what Aloha means to you, and explore how we can ensure future generations have the same opportunity to grow in these beloved programs.
When I’m not at work, you’ll likely find me hiking in the Green or White Mountains, skiing in the winter, traveling to see my two adult sons, or exploring Upper Valley trails with our dog. My husband Aaron and I are currently living in Grantham while building our home in Lyme, NH.
Thank you for welcoming me into this incredible community. I look forward to all we will accomplish together.
Warmly,
Karen Burgess
