Foundational Insights, September 2025

By The Aloha Team

Dear Alumni, Families, and Friends,

Our summer programs have concluded, and I have just concluded a wonderful week at home with my own campers, returning from brilliant summers at Hive and Lanakila. It is such a joy to have them home, bubbling over with confidence and stories of the summer.

I hope that you, too, had a wonderful summer. Whether your family spent time at one of our camps or whether the Alohas crept into your summer thoughts as a happy memory, I hope that this place and the people who have contributed to it have helped to furnish your life with positivity and growth.

This summer, as in every summer, it took the whole Aloha community to make our programs possible. We have generous volunteers and donors who support this foundation with gifts of their time, expertise, and resources, helping to make amazing things possible. We have young staff who come to us ready to learn, to teach, and eager to impart the best parts of the life they’ve so far lived to our campers. We have seasoned and year-round staff who sacrifice in ways I’m not sure I could measure. They share freely their talents, spend time away from their families, and dedicate a full portion of their lives to the families and campers we serve, in the earnest hope of making their time here—cliché as it may sound—transformative.

And, we have you, as well. You are receiving this message, as you will our quarterly communications in the form of Foundational Insights and Reveille, because we are grateful to you. Over a century of summer camp and programming doesn’t sustain itself through staff and donors alone. It is an evolving story contributed to by portions of your lives, spent here, embracing this place, carrying forward its joys, and returning often—be it in person, in thought, or correspondence with one of its stewards.

And so that we may endure for another hundred years, please stay in touch! Offer us your suggestions and feedback! If you had a camper here this summer, or were campers yourselves, please respond to the survey we’ve shared with you. Our quality, longevity, and impact depend on communication with you and the closeness of this community.

The annual Reveille is in production and should arrive in your mailboxes in a few weeks. I hope it reminds you of your camp experience, brings you up to date on happenings across the foundation, and fills your heart as this place and community do mine.

I wish you all the best this fall, and I will be in touch again soon.
