Meals
Our chefs take special care to ensure our meals are nutritious, tasty, and include lots of options to satisfy a range of food preferences. Family camp menus include cereals, eggs, breads, pasta, pizza, chicken, turkey, roast beef, sandwiches, soups, tacos, and plenty of salads, vegetables and fruits. Our kitchen provides vegetarian alternatives, and we take pride in the supplier relationships we have established with local growers and farm stands nearby in Vermont and New Hampshire. We do our best to accommodate dietary needs by not serving nuts, and by making vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options.
Meals are served buffet-style for breakfast and lunch in our large dining hall. At August Family Camp, families may choose to eat on the porch, or on the lawn. Dinner is served family style in our dining hall with children’s games provided 20 minutes into the meal for our quick eaters. Adults over 21 years old may bring alcoholic beverages, a fridge is provided to store drinks during the week.
August Camp Accommodations
August Family Camp accommodations are in spacious platform tents or rustic open air cabins. Each tent or cabin is outfitted with four cots, shelves, and a table. Toilet facilities are located in adjacent bathhouses. Bathhouses are equipped with sinks, flush toilets, showers and electricity. The tents and cabins are within a short walking distance mostly uphill, of the Main House, Dining Hall and Waterfront.
New Year’s Camp Accommodations
New Year’s Family Camp accommodations are in our warm, winterized cabins. Each cabin has 4 bedrooms containing 4 beds and two full communal bathrooms. Cots may be added to bedrooms for larger families. The cabins are within a short walking distance from the Main House.
Staff
Hulbert staff are experienced counselors, bringing unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge to our programs. Each staff member brings their own educational and professional expertise to their role at Hulbert, seamlessly adapting their approach to best suit the age and background of the program participants. Children four and over may participate fully in the daily program, with or without their parents. We are unable to provide supervision for children outside of scheduled activities and we ask that children under four ALWAYS be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Health & Safety
All of our practices have been developed to meet or exceed guidelines put forth by the American Camp Association (ACA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and Vermont’s Department of Health.
As always, as we plan for the upcoming camp season, the safety of our campers, counselors, participants, and staff is our top priority. We ask that Hulbert Family Camp campers review and follow the CDC’s guidance for respiratory viruses. We also strongly recommend (but do not require) COVID vaccination for all campers and staff.
We partner with Ivy Oaks Analytics, a public health company that works with over 100 camps and specializes in the control of ticks, mosquitoes, and poison ivy. Although these have never been a major issue at the Aloha Camps, we feel strongly that we have an obligation to our camp community to do everything in our power to reduce these risks. This process includes ongoing tick population measurements, landscape modification, natural control methods, and more. Hulbert is proud to be one of the few camps nationally with an advanced public health standards certification by implementing this program. Learn More
