Wilderness First Aid
Along with standard emergency care information, the backcountry emphasis with long-term care and evacuation complications makes this course unique. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one – and maybe even save a life. Course material can be modified to meet the specific interests or needs of a group, i.e., cycling, kayaking, climbing, etc.
The Two-Year SOLO WFA certification is accepted nationally by leading outdoor organizations and state guide licensing agencies and has been recognized by the American Camping Association as meeting their first aid requirements.
Wilderness First Responder Re-Cert
This two-day review is designed to re-certify individuals previously certified as Wilderness First Responders. Although open to any WFR graduate, SOLO currently has reciprocity with WMI/NOLS and WMA; graduates of these programs can be re-certified through SOLO providing their certification is current at the time of the course.
CPR Recertification is available for an additional fee. Proof of eligible WFR and CPR training must be provided to SOLO before renewal cards will be issued.
ACA Canoe Instructor
The American Canoe Association Certificate program provides you with the skills and training necessary to become an ACA Tandem Canoe Instructor. Canoes, PFDs, paddles, and safety equipment will all be provided. Paddlers must demonstrate basic boat control skills, teaching ability, safety awareness, and technical knowledge to obtain certifications.
Meals
Our chefs take special care to ensure our meals are nutritious, tasty, and include lots of options to satisfy a range of food preferences. Menus include cereals, eggs, breads, pasta, pizza, chicken, turkey, roast beef, sandwiches, soups, tacos, and plenty of salads, vegetables and fruits. Our kitchen provides vegetarian alternatives, and we take pride in the supplier relationships we have established with local growers and farm stands nearby in Vermont and New Hampshire. We do our best to accommodate dietary needs by not serving nuts, and by making vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options. Meals are served in our large dining hall.
Accommodations
Accommodations are available for some courses. Hulbert is located on Lake Morey in Fairlee, Vermont, surrounded by large playing fields and hundreds of acres of woodland. Hulbert’s accommodations are in our warm, winterized cabins. Each cabin has four bedrooms containing four beds and two full communal bathrooms. The cabins are within a short walking distance of the Main House.
Health & Safety
Since spring 2020, we have been working closely with local, state, and national experts to establish guidelines and best practices for opening camps safely and limiting the spread of communicable disease.
All of our practices have been developed to meet or exceed guidelines put forth by the American Camp Association (ACA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and Vermont’s Department of Health.
Let’s Connect
We offer camps and programs for people of all ages. Let’s talk about you, your child, your family – and discover together which experience you would value most. There are many options and possibilities!
