Welcome Summer Staff 2024!
Greetings Summer Staff!
Check out the links below for all the details you’ll need to prepare for camp – packing lists, uniform vendor, transportation & shipping options, mailing addresses and phone numbers to share with family and friends, health information, and more!
Email employment@alohafoundation.org with any questions.
Staff Training
All staff attend our Pre-camp training week to learn and practice counseling strategies, safety protocols, camp routines, and relationship-building approaches. Department time will focus on practicing skills and teaching techniques, learning about our ranks system, and planning activities. Unit or group time will introduce daily schedules, expectations for supervision and camper care, and special events. There will also be time for socializing and community-building activities. Our aim is to help each counselor feel prepared for the summer.
Some counselors will be asked to attend training courses during our Certification Week (e.g., Lifeguard Training, Designated Trip Leader Training, Wilderness First Aid). You’ll receive more information closer to the start of camp but if you have any questions about Cert Week, please email Tori Sumner, our Cert Week Coordinator.
*Camp uniforms are not required during Cert Week or Pre-Camp.
Transportation
Staff are responsible for coordinating and paying for their own transportation. The Aloha Foundation can meet staff at local bus stations. We ask that everyone complete the Staff Travel Plans section of your onboarding.
Dartmouth Coach Bus
- BOSTON SERVICE: The Coach provides multiple buses each day to/from Logan Airport. Tickets are transferrable so if your flight comes in late, you can hop on the next bus.

Medications at Camp
If you choose to manage your own medications, they must be kept in your locked car or a dedicated locked space out of reach of campers in the counselor room. If you’d like us to manage your meds, you are required to have your doctor fill out this medication order form, and you should sign it as well under the parent/guardian signature line. This is for all prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements. Due to nursing practice laws, we cannot manage your medications without this signed form.
We also ask that you remember as best you can to come get your meds at your camp’s designated location prior to the meal so that we don’t have to spend our meal searching for you in the dining hall. Due to the number of camper medications we need to prepare and distribute each meal, we will not have time to seek you out if you forget to get your medicine. If you frequently forget your medication, we may ask that you manage your own medications. Please email any questions and your completed medication order form by the start of pre-camp to Gretchen_Cyros@alohafoundation.org.
Substance-Free Campuses
The use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, vapes, non-medically required drugs, and any related paraphernalia or products is strictly prohibited on camp property and at all off-site camper events while summer camp is in session. Prescribed drugs that are medically necessary must be used exclusively for the purpose for which they were prescribed.
Should the medication of a staff or volunteer impair their ability to perform their work safely and effectively, they must immediately inform the Camp Director and Executive Director.
A violation of this policy will be reported to the Executive Director and HR Director and subject to disciplinary action, up to and including potential termination of employment. A second violation of this policy will result in the automatic termination of employment or revocation of volunteer status. This policy does not apply to adult guests participating in family camp programming or attending special functions on camp property.
