Welcome Summer Staff 2024!

Each camp hosts a pre-camp training session covering a wide range of topics, including safety measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19. Counselors who are receiving advanced trainings (first aid, lifeguarding, trip leading) also attend Certification Week.

Our residential camp health staff is supported by a Nursing Supervisor and a Health House driver. Upper Valley Pediatrics (UVP) serves as our camp doctors. Our arrangement includes a daily visit by a UVP doctor to each campus and assistance on Opening Day. Beginning in 2023, we have a Wellness Coordinator on our camp staff present to support campers and counselors. In addition to providing our staff with a Mental Health First Aid training, the Wellness Coordinator holds office hours throughout the summer for campers and staff. Since 2021, we have contracted with Little Rivers to provide on call and in person therapy support to our campers and counselors.

The Aloha Foundation requires all staff and volunteers to adhere to our vaccination policies and upload proof of vaccination to their records.

All staff must complete a Health History Form on an annual basis. This form is part of your onboarding paperwork. If you have questions about health forms or your medical needs, please email Gretchen Cyros, Nursing Supervisor.

Our camp nurses are happy to help you out by dosing your medications to you. Please note we are required to provide doses to counselors under 18, but if you are over 18, you have this option too. This is not required, just available if it makes your life easier! 

If you choose to manage your own medications, they must be kept in your locked car or a dedicated locked space out of reach of campers in the counselor room. If you’d like us to manage your meds, you are required to have your doctor fill out this medication order form, and you should sign it as well under the parent/guardian signature line. This is for all prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements. Due to nursing practice laws, we cannot manage your medications without this signed form. 

We also ask that you remember as best you can to come get your meds at your camp’s designated location prior to the meal so that we don’t have to spend our meal searching for you in the dining hall. Due to the number of camper medications we need to prepare and distribute each meal, we will not have time to seek you out if you forget to get your medicine. If you frequently forget your medication, we may ask that you manage your own medications. Staff members in our summer programs create joyful, often transformative opportunities for campers. To make these experiences possible, our primary responsibility as an organization and as individuals must be the safety and well-being of our campers, staff, and community at all times.

The use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, vapes, non-medically required drugs, and any related paraphernalia or products is strictly prohibited on camp property and at all off-site camper events while summer camp is in session. Prescribed drugs that are medically necessary must be used exclusively for the purpose for which they were prescribed.
Should the medication of a staff or volunteer impair their ability to perform their work safely and effectively, they must immediately inform the Camp Director and Executive Director.

A violation of this policy will be reported to the Executive Director and HR Director and subject to disciplinary action, up to and including potential termination of employment. A second violation of this policy will result in the automatic termination of employment or revocation of volunteer status. This policy does not apply to adult guests participating in family camp programming or attending special functions on camp property.
